Dear Parents,
The Ohio State University’s Injury Biomechanics Research Laboratory is conducting a research study to improve automotive safety for children. I am writing to you today to inquire if you and your children would be willing to assist us in our study.
We are seeking children between the ages of 4 and 12 to take part in this research study because data is needed in order to develop more life-like crash test dummies.
The research protocol involves measuring the amount of motion at the ankle, the length, width and height of the foot and ankle, as well as using a rehab machine, called the Biodex, which will allow us to measure ankle stiffness. The forces that we will be inducing on the ankle will contain risks no greater than what occurs during daily activities.
With this data we will create more life-like child test dummies which will lead to safer vehicles and thus lower the number of children injured during traffic accidents.
Please contact Laura Boucher(boucher.57@osu.edu)or John Bolte (biotraum@osu.edu) if you have any questions about the study or if you are willing to assist us in making vehicles safer for children.
This is a great way to expose your children to the scientific process and to learn about anatomy!
