Hello, my name is Joel Shonkwiler, and I am a recent graduate of the Doctor of Music Program at The Ohio State University. My dissertation focused on homogeneous group lesson instruction, and I am looking to put my research to use over the summer. Mondays and Tuesdays during June and July I am running eight weeks of metro-wide large-group trombone sessions, named the Summer Trombone Labs. The goals of this project are to: maintain what has been learned during the school year, improve understanding of core concepts (breathing, rhythm, articulation and tone), and provide an environment for artistic and creative growth in a homogeneous choir setting. This program is being extended to HS-age trombonists (15-18) from area band programs, as well as home-schooled musicians. If any parents would like their young learner to be involved in this opportunity, I hope that you would respond to this post or email me directly at joel.shonkwiler@gmail.com.
